STAYING

when left alone
he would always
say to himself,
"I'm ready to die"
he said it out loud
while doing the dishes
while doing the laundry
while mowing the yard
"I'm ready to die, I think
I'm just ready to die"
you gotta understand
this was not at all a
depressing thought
it was just that he felt
that he'd seen enough
like anything else was
superfluous, like most
things in life which are
basically just in the way
